Welcome to Amma Leslie’s Corner.
What do we call you?
What do we call you? We can’t call you “Father”. Why are some people calling you Amma Leslie? What does “Amma” mean? There is no established form of address for women priests and it is up to each individual to decide what she wants to be called. I’m happy to be called Leslie, although I understand some people feel they show more respect with more formal language. When I was in seminary I learned about the title “Amma” when studying the “Desert Mothers” in an Early Christianity class. Amma means “spiritual mother.” Since then some people have called me Amma Leslie (or Mama Leslie!). You are free to use whatever title makes you most comfortable, or no title at all, just as long as we are talking with one another!
I Invite You.
I invite you to worship with us at St. Bartholomew’s Church and feel the love of God manifesting through our parish community. Hear sermons that connect the ancient truths of the bible to the challenges of everyday life. Learn who Jesus Christ really is and how he can companion and guide you through any situation you are facing. Sing hymns that have strengthened and comforted people for generations. Know the truth of the Holy Spirit present within you, inspiring you to be everything God wants you to be.
